Technical Characteristics of Imhoff Tanks.

Imhoff tanks are made of high-quality linear polyethylene (PE) complying with UNI EN 12566-3 standards and Legislative Decree No. 152/2006. They are designed to be installed underground and consist of two overlapping compartments:

  • Upper compartment: for solids sedimentation.
  • Lower compartment: for anaerobic digestion of sludge.

This structure makes it possible to combine mechanical sedimentation treatment with anaerobic biological treatment, ensuring a significant reduction in organic load (BOD5) and suspended solids.

Advantages of Imhoff Tanks.

  • Treatment efficiency: They remove up to 50% of suspended solids and over 30% of BOD5.
  • Ease of installation: Sized for civil drains, they adapt to underground installations with different configurations.
  • Simplified maintenance: They require only 1-2 purging and cleaning operations per year.
  • Durability and strength: Thanks to the polyethylene material, the tanks resist corrosion and weathering.

Applications

Ideal for:

  • Private residences.
  • Hospitality facilities.
  • Small residential complexes.

Imhoff tanks can be integrated with degassing systems to ensure optimal treatment of effluent and, if necessary, convey the treated effluent to secondary plants or to underground dispersion.

Specifications and Models Available

The range includes modular and monobloc solutions, with capacities ranging from a few hundred to thousands of liters, to meet organic load requirements from 2 up to more than 240 population equivalent (P.E.).

Each model is equipped with:

  • Biogas ventilation system.
  • Manhole covers for inspection and purging.
  • Optional extensions for access.

Reference Standards.

The tanks fully comply with Italian and European regulations on wastewater treatment. Each installation must be performed in accordance with local technical guidelines and regulations to ensure proper operation and legal compliance.

Maintenance Tips.

  • Use bio-activators to optimize the digestion process.
  • Avoid the input of toxic or non-biodegradable substances.
  • Conduct regular inspections to prevent excessive sludge accumulation.
